Stew Küche - Good Stews at great prices!

Stew Kuche is Located in a ulu coffeeshop just outside the famed Alexandra Village hawker centre

Prices for the most part were pretty decent. But the surprise was the coffeeshop!

Unlike most coffeeshops that serves Heinekan and Tiger, there's a large selection of gourmet wines! Very Impressive!

The missus had the Wittekerke Rose ($10). Very floral, Huge raspberry aromas, slightly sour. very sweet, quaffable with a tingle of carbonation. Excellent choice.

Vollmond Beer. This really has to be one of my new favorite beers.  Brewed organically, apparently on a full moon indeed a gem of Switzerland.

The pork knuckles was excellent. Crispy crusty skin was reminscent of Lei Garden's famous Sio Bak. Meat was fork tender with generous serving of home made mashed potatoes and achar. The Value for money Portions are enough for 2-3.
Ossobucco Stew. Easily the Star of the evening. Tender meat falling off the bone with a aromatic stew based lapped up with a basket of garlic bread. Paired with the Volland Beer, this is heaven in a coffeeshop.

Restaurant standard food at coffeeshop prices. Big thumbs up!

Foo's House - Hainanese Gastropub!

Another Hidden gem in the east at Jalan Pari Burong off Simpang Bedok we found the cloest thing to a Gastropub in Singapore

Foo's House is helmed by Ex grand Hyatt hotel executive Sous Chef Robert Foo.

Boasting a Retro feel akin to those Irish pubs back in Belfast, Mdm Cheapo quipped that this is Singapore's version of an Irish pub. Presenting, Foo's house- A Hainanese Gastro Pub!

The Picardy Monster Beef Burger ($16.90 + $1 for each additional topping) (Bacon, egg, caramelized onions and mushroom). 220g of pure beefy goodness, with a nice charred smoky flavour from the maillard reaction. Easily the best burger in the east and amongst my top 3 in Singapore.

How can we come to a Hainanese pub without trying the Hainaneses pork Chops?

Pork Chops are crisy with a juicy centre. The Tangy tomato based sauce reminds me of my mom's home cooking. Very good.

Fried Mars Bar.  FRIED. MARS. BARS. It was sinfully good. Hot fried Sticky Mars chocolate with Ice cream. Need I say more?

AustWine @ Farmart

Ever craved to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the city?

Well. you can't get any further away than this. Hidden ( and I really mean well hidden) in Farmart, deep inside Sungei Tengah, just behind Qianhu Fish farm lies this gem.

For such a location, even for a Friday night, the place was rather packed.

Nice Chill out ambience , light jazz in the background. And surprisingly a pretty good ( and reasonably priced wine cellar!

As the name implies, the restaurant specialises in australian wine. Me and the missus share a bottle of Sparkling Moscato.

A hint of strawberry and citrus with a crisp sweet floral aftertaste. Very nice.

Crispy pork knuckles. Not exactly exotic but a pretty reasonable rendition here. Crispy skin, with fork tender meat. Not the very best pork knuckle in Singapore of course, but worth a try if you're there.

Bangers and mash. Seems like run of the mill store bought sausages with limp vegetables and horrors of horrors, powdered mash? Very disappointing.

All in all a pretty decent gem. A couple of hits and misses on the food, but the cheap wine and nice ambience makes it worth it.

Introductions...

Growing up in Singapore gives me a very unique prospective to food.

I believe that life is too short to eat yucky food. Why waste calories?

Hence my search for good food begins....
